Joining a new company often comes with excitement. At Paystack, like many places, this usually meant familiar items like T-shirts, bottles, and stickers. They were nice to receive, but often didn’t last beyond the initial novelty.

In 2021, while working on the employee experience team, I had the opportunity to rethink this. I began treating merch as a branded moment rather than a giveaway; something that could reflect Paystack’s values, design taste, and attention to detail. The work focused on creating pieces people would genuinely enjoy using over time, while also laying the groundwork for how we think about merch more broadly, including an early attempt at an internal merch store.

This project followed that thinking from early ideas through to production and rollout, and helped shape a more intentional approach to merch across the company.
